how did the mercedes get on? does it have diff locks and a low gear too?
i am looking for a longer term living van for a year in the artic ( with a seperate toilet/shower) and want something at least as capable as the syncro.

The Mercedes has high an low gear and center and rear diff lock
It goes very well, all were impressed
Only suffered in the narrow paths with vegetation or in the closed turns

The T4 benzin has had problems with the maximum slope of the gas pipeline path , without torque to supply the lack of gear reduction,
not sure what you mean here ?
so they all got through with out help?

We had a Merc sprinter 4x4 in Albania/Kosovo seemed to be quite capable on Albania roads (prob the same as African roads) if you could call them roads but wasn't allowed drive it but would say they are pretty good don't think they would be as good as a Syncro, even longer wheelbase and all but would be close I'd imagine. Would it not be better to rent somewhere to live in in the Arctic and just use the Syncro as daily driver unless you are going to spend a serious amount of money kitting out a van and in that case a Unimog or a pinz which would be a lot more capable and probably a better option? Just out of interest what are you doing in the Artic?

All got through without help
T4 benzin has only a maximum of 200Nm of torque and a DQP gearbox, higher geared, against the 250-300Nm engine torque and DRH/EFA low geared gearbox of the T4 TDi

Crappy differensials on 4x4 sprinters, almost impossible to source parts as well.

Great photos! Looks like a great day was had. Barcelona, I love that place, was there last year with work, but enjoyed it nevertheless.
