T25 engine

Hi all, ive just recieved my recon 1.9dg watercooled engine and fitting it myself, a few people was telling me i might have to get it re-timed can anyone help me with this matter please it would be very helpful.

did it come with the distributor fitted?

No it has not but they told me they had it running just before it was shipped. I am thinking of useing my old one of the other engine as it's in good condition.

On the pulley are marks
you need to refer to the haynes manual to have them described... if you don't know
but basically one of the marks is TDC No.1 cyl firing stroke
rotate the engine till this is so.(The TDC mark lines up with the casing mark (haynes)
when the distributor is fitted the rotor arm must point to No 1 cyl on the firing stroke (both valves shut)
firing order 1432 connect the leads as such
then use a timing gun to precisely adjust it to 5 deg BTDC

Thanks kev it puts a lot of light on it now, i'll read through the haynes manual a couple of times before i start.
