Hi there can anyone tell me how many earths should be on my van and where they are as I want to take them off and clean them. The reason for this is that the ignition is intermittent works fine one day then slow to turn over the next.....

Battery cable earth.

Earth under coil in engine bay.

Earths on 'christmas trees' behind the fuses and relays on LHS passenger footwell. need to remove glovebox and there screwed to the side of the van basically behind everything.

Hope that helps!

Most likely cause of intermittent ignition is the point where the main live / battery cable connects to the starter motor. The terminals get corroded and break down. Take the cable off, check if the terminal's knackered. If so chop it off and replace it (making sure you leave enough to reconnect) Then give everything a good rub down with a wire brush and reconnect.

Oilte bush in the gearbox bell housing is also a possibility...they go oval with wear and so the starter pinion does not properly engage with the ring gear.

Thanks everyone great info...I will check all what's been said..When I say intermittent I mean either when you turn the key you get no response whatsoever and if I turn the key back and forth eventually the engine turns or when I turn the key the engine just turns over slowly and the all of a sudden it turns over as it should. What I will say is that it's been fine last two days.....so who know what's going on....
