Dash Bodge

Hi all

I got my van running this weekend after a 9 month lay up, although she started 2nd attempt a new problem appeared, which potentially could be the result of a bodge to the clock ribbons.

heres a couple of pics of the afore-mentioned dash bodge.

Right heres the problem, I turn on the ignition red temp light is flashing then stops, few seconds the needle swings all the way to the right and stays there and red light is flashing. Now it does this regardless of if the engine is running or not . Whn I took the pics earlier I just turned the ignition on and it did it.

Now when I got the van it didnt do this.

When I had a fiddle with the electrics earlier in the year I got the heater blower and the wipers going , but one of the relays went mad and the only way I could stop it clicking was to pull it out even after the ignition was switched off . Now the two things that have changed since the van last ran are the relay is pulled out and I could of disturbed the blue wire on the dash ribbons where Ive been bleeding the brakes.

I have a mint set of clocks with good ribbons but there a km set, are the ribbons if need be inter-changeable.

any thoughts gratefully received

James

If you disconnect the water temp sender on the engine the dash temp gauge swings all the way to the right and the light flashes... (if i remember correct) so that probably means that you have a wiring break / earth or a dogey temp sender! if youwant to test the wiring you could disconnect the wire from the sender and run any old wire from it to the dash connection, through the van, and see what happens (if you get my drift?)

Sounds like you have some ribon damage possibly where it joins to the dash itself and some more wiring issues!

Relay problem is another issue in itself, mayb a new relay? do you know which relay it is?

Cheers for that mate.

Never thought of the broken wire option, I may have disturbed something when I replaced the petrol tank  .

Im going to try the other set of clocks I have this weekend see what they do.

Not to much of a issue at the moment as im cutting out the drivers cab floor this weekend aswell so its not going to need to be started up again for a couple of weeks till thats sorted out.

thanks again

James
