Evening all and looking for advice.....Just fitted a new exhaust to my T3 1988 and on a short run around sounds as if I have tappet problems.... had a new cylinder head gasket fitted last year, any advice from you good lads / ladies much appreciated. Regards...Brian

This query pops up regularly. Even the Haynes manual advises that this can hapen. Mine does it occassonally. Have look at the wiki about tappets and all will become clear.

Tappets.....and the engine is?

If wasserboxer (petrol) then yes it's common after standing to have a lazy hydraulic tappet.

If Diesel then...the tappet shims may need changing to adjust clearances after a settling in period.
