Ive just fitted a 1.9 diesel engine and i have tried to fit a new timing belt today i have used the marks on the flywheel which was off a 1.6.
But after i finished i turned it over by hand and its jamming up.
so is the timing different on a 1.9 to a 1.6 and if so how do you find out where the flywheel should be goddammit ?
cheers
john.

The timing mark is on the clutch pressure plate not the flywheel, clutch pressure plate could be wrong on flywheel giving you incorrect marks.
Did you just pull old belt off and put new on or were things turned with old belt off.

your going to have to remove gearbox and check the clutch pressure plate postion, i think flywheel and plate are both marked for each other. It can only go in 3 positions so you only have 2 options left.

this happened to me, i thought i had bent a valve (but didnt). turn the crank by hand until the flywheel marks up with the v, turn the camshaft at the same time by hand, there is a hole in the pump pulley that you can put a small bolt through to hold it in placewith hole in block, check no1 is tdc by looking at at the 2 cams (closed) put the belt on and fire it up. if your pump hasnt got the hole in it you need to find the timing of that. failing that , err, reach for the socket set!!
