Hi,

I've got a Viking roof, which looks to be original and i need some help and advice:

- does anyone know what this material actually is? It is not traditional cotton canvase as it has a plastic/ pvc feel to it.
- what cleaning fluids are best to clean off old stains?
- is it possible to re proof the material?

My Leisure Drive pop-top bellows are made from similar sounding stuff. I used NikWax Tech Wash and then NikWax Proofer. The proofer was specifically aimed at looking after tents etc and was in a sparay bottle. Really easy to use and you can commence the proofing as soon as you've washed, i.e no need to let it dry post wash.

I've found its where there is a window in the cavasse that has the stitching which, after 29 years, has done a great job. Its just that last week with a day of solid down pour it started to weep a very small amount and i want to nip that in the bud!

It works and would be perfect for that repair. It's almost like a weird rubber solution, you spray it on, leave for ten minutes then spread it evenly. Around stiching would be perfect as it would sink in and seal.

well, spent the morning cleaning it..looks almost new!

The proof spray is weird.... it goes gulpy in contact with air. hopefully that has done the job and will last for a year or so.

Tip - if anyone is using the proofer/ cleaner, cover your van up before hand as the rubbish that is washed off will stick like wax to your van - especially the windows!
