I wonder if you could help me, I have a VW Flatbed builders truck (full details below) and the cylinder head has gone it. I was trying to work out if it is more cost effective to renew the engine and gearbox as a oner or just if there are head and bearing - clutch kits available for this type. It has more sentimental reason to keep on the road than sell on (It was my father first and last truck as he was a builder - passed away last year)
Any advice would be much appreciated
Van details:
VRN F71 SDG
Chassis No WV2ZZZ24ZKH060273
Engine - cant find, but it is a flat 4 water cooled
Type 056B1006V
Gross Wt 2400 Combine Wt 3900
Thank you for your time

Billy, why LT? doesn't the 2 after VW denote the transporter??
LTs - didn't come with flat fours did they?
if its a flat four watercooled could ring and speak to Elite VW in Basildon....they are normally happy to help over the phone.

well, if its one of ours,
yep...clutch kits available. Around £100 some more, some less. 3 part kit inludes thrust bearing. Engines available - second hand and recon. VEGE, REMTEC and Elite are three suppliers I know of. A search on here will bring up members' experiences....but you pays your money and takes your pick. Some have rebuilt themselves....many threads in technical on how to do this if you are feeling brave! Body parts and mechanicals from schofields, vw heritage etc Brickwerks is the recommended place on here...he only sells what works.
Keep you dad's van going!

No LT's are still Type 2's (Type 28), His is a Type 24 which is the pick up version of or vans.
But as Ermie says their are lots of options it really depends on how bad things are with it. If the rest of the engine is in reasonable condition then it is better to have the head sorted.
What wrong with the gearbox?
