I've just changed my rocker covers, cause im going on a 3000 mile tour and they seemed a little rusty, when i changed them there seemed to be a lot of oil coming out of one of the . What dose this mean and do i have to fix it before i go?

P.S i've lost no oil in six months

Any clues as to what sort of engine it is?? Was the oil coming out as you changed it, or afterward? Congrats on the six months btw......

Its a 1915 petrol, the oil keep coming out slowly for about 10mins

Did you change the cork rocker cover gaskets ? (Did this job myself last week ... we're going on a long trek too) If so try re-sealing the cover gaskets using Hylomar, having cleaned head,lid and gasket faces first.

(You did check the spring retaining clips went on straight and clicked into the groove now didn't you ? )

a finger full or grease around the cork gasket on both side before fitting will make a good seal, DONT use gasket goo or next time you need to change them you'll have a 2 hr jobs cleaning up to get a seal.......

Marston's developed 'Blue Hylomar' in conjunction with Rolls Royce for just such an application, i.e. non-pressured dry gasket joints, it is non-setting and aids sealing between 2 dry faces. Next time the seal is broken the Hylomar is still miscous and can be wiped away easily with a rag.

NOT to be mistaken for other setting sealants which create more problems than they cure in the long run.
