Whilst looking through the wiki, and finding out I need 15/40 Mineral oil, for some crazy reason, I purchased 4.5lts of Mobile 1 GTX 15X/40 Diesel oil, and its now in my engine.

My question is, will this damage the engine at all, or cause problems eventually? Im trying to find VW's Quantum 15/40 Mineral (for petrol engines) locally but finding it a bit of a mission.

Blue Quantum 15W40 mineral is no longer available unless old/new stock.

Which one is it..Castrol or Mobil? either one, just read the label and see if it mentions petrol engines...not ideal but I doubt any damage will occur.

In my experience 15W40 is diesel engine oil. I don't know what 15X40 is though!
I'm sure Shell, Mobil et al, all come up with some sales gimmicks like 'let's call some of our 15w40 oil, petrol engine oil' just to confuse us mortals!

It's 15w40 as opposed to say 10w40 which is for motorcycles.

Its Mobil, California my friend. Seems ok, and engine running fine, nice and quiet. May need thinner oil for the winter though as it reaches -35 here winter time.

That's in my experience of course!

Diesel oil has more detegents compared to petrol oil and i've been told not to mix he two becuse of this. here is a link to a good site on oils you might find interesting. Hope it helps.

Thanks for that, I will take a look. Considering on ordering some Quantum 15w/40 to have the peace of mind.
