Hi everyone im carl and new, ive just brought a 1985 t25 camper dirt cheap because i knew the engine had probs i took it to a garage and they said the cyl head knackered. i was thinking about doing up the engine but i think a recon or new one would give me better peace of mind in case of more damage does anyone know the best place to get a recon or new engine from. any suggestions would be very helpful thank you

No new engines anymore.
If you use the search for reconditioned engines
theres a whole heap of threads for you to look at.
Starting at around £1500

Second hand engines are found in the wanted forum and from Elite engines with warranty.

Why not replace the heads?

Thanks for the help very much appreciated, do you think it would have done anymore damage than the heads as the people who i brought it from ran it when it kept over heating, the engine sounds ok but leaking water when filled up. thanks again

Can be a can of worms. Anyone else who has rebuilt vw engines will tell you that doing top end repairs can just cause something else to give up the ghost, like fitting a bionic arm on an old lady. If its been round the clock once or twice it needs a proper rebuild. Could be wear all over the shop. Sometimes you can get lucky for sure but you'd need to be checking carefully for wear/damage and have the tools and/or experience to do that.

Rebuilding isn't rocket science but price of parts can soon stack up even if doing it yourself.
