Twin carb or single Carb?

Hi,
Relatively new to bus scene & not mechanically adept at all. Have a 1981 2l AC Westphalia Campervan.
I've been advised that air is getting into my carbs via the throttle linkage and I need to get my carbs rebushed. I'm living in the picturesque a*** end of West Wales and I'm unable to find anyone local who can remove, rebush, refit and retune this side of the Severn Bridge. I'm not sure if the van would make it to Gasure in Chester so I'm looking to see if anyone has any alternatives....
One option I've been given is to change from twin solex carb to a single Empi carb with a twin choke (as quality parts are difficult to get for Solex) - What difference will this make?
Grateful for any sensible responses
Thanks
Ceri
