Am I being stupid?

Now Im either being a bit thick here or Ive buggered something :( .

Im in the process of stripping down my rear brakes and replacing with new, while Ive got it all in bits I put in new bearings so Ive had the rear hubs off to. Now Im starting to build it all back up again. My van is up in the air on axle stands as Im doing both sides. Now Ive put it in gear to put me hub nuts on but the axles are still spinning and theres no resistance at all ( like its not in gear ).

There was no problems before the strip down, Is it possible Ive done some damage while trying to get the hub nuts undone as they really didnt want to budge? of am I just being thick and theres a simple answer?

thanks in advance

James

with both wheels in the air when you turn one side all the power goes across the differential to the other one which spins in the opposite direction, don't do them up fully until the vehicle is back on all 4 wheels, if you use an impact gun it should spin the nuts on without spinning out the diff

Thank christ for that :D .

I just wanted to put the hub nuts on to keep the hub on , so I can re-fit the drum to keep the new parts covered till the weekend. As waiting for rear brake hoses and still need to make up new lines.

Sometimes I'll admit to being a bit thick If I can keeps me feet on the ground :rofl .

Cheers Aiden.

Diffs working, wont go into 2nd tho.Hence why the panic set in.

Where Ive been rooting about under-neath I have a feeling the coolant pipes have shifted over and are obstructing the gear linkage. Thats why I had to ask the question and suffere the

never rains :D
