Anyone got recommendations for good quality braked trailer to move a syncro around with. I'm thinking ifor or Brian James . I have a 10 ft ifor which I may chop in although it's really useful but I'm thinking a trailer to move a van will be more useful over next couple of years. Need to know models that will carry a syncro panel for eg. Cheers Jes

With bothmy vans i hired a proper car trailer, just supplied weight and dimensions, what is more important is what u tow with, syncro campers are heavy.

The unladen weight of a panel van Syncro including driver is given as 1540 kgs, the length is given as 4570mm and the width is given as 1845mm. As regards a wheel footprint the figures are track = 1583mm fr and 1570mm rear. Wheelbase is given as 2460mm.

Hope this helps

empty syncro van is 1560kg
4.56m long,1.85m wide, wheelbase 2.46m, front overhang 1.16m, rear 950mm, track 1.58m
basically you need a landcruiser or rangie/disco and a 3 tonne gross twin axle trailer, most decent trailer hire places do them or talk to Andy Bignut (07985 412403) and let him take the strain
I've done it with a syncro and it's not good and I wouldn't do it again, also ford ranger isn't upto it even though it's supposed to be ok, and KarlT can demonstate what happens when you get it wrong, though he didn't get nicked for it amazingly

I have a Brian James Clubman that I use for moving my Classic Trials Beetle around. Although its not big enough for a Syncro I can say that Brian James trailers are excellent and pretty good value if you buy them new (they also hold their value very well - try buying one second hand).

Once mine is hitched up and on a main road you hardly know you are towing. :ok

Hope this helps,

Pete

 Yeah, it was pretty scary!!

Own fault, too much nose weight & going too fast down a steep hill. Gods were smiling on me & I got away with it.......Well apart from the £12.50 the trailer company charged fro the ripped off indicated......Thank god they didn't see the other side!!!

Lucky days. :ok

I've got a passat estate tdi 130 bhp with tow bar or a t4 1.9 tdi without tow bar but could add one although this is a pretty gutless vehicle. So I'm guessing that neither would be suitable / legal ?

Id say you'd be on or just over the limit with the Passat. Go rent a van with a towbar ...
