Let there be light.

I've recently trimmed all my wiring and attched new clamps, connectors, and clipppy things and discovered I HAVE LIghts that actually show me the way. I was going to change all the bulbs etc, maybe a iccle bit of an upgrade. Now I've realised I don't need to. They just weren't getting the voltage they should have been getting, due to "pooh" connections and loose wiring and split wires. So I did all the fixey bits and hey presto they are working as they should be. Well....nearly. The thing is, all the lights, as far I tell are flickering, dimming(ever so slightly, but still ten times better than the were) as I travel along. It's hardly noticable but I can see it. Just a tiny lack of something. I' changed my belt and bulbs and still there's this annoying little-shall I shine or shall i not. Same on the back lights, well the ones that work( I can't get the off side back light to come on. Near side is fine.) I've taken them apart and found nothing un-toward. Mind is boggling. I have been playing with alternator. I checked the carbon bushes, both fine. I checked the connections, all fine. So I'm baffled and stuck. Battery maybe? Any help appreciated.
