having just recently got back from our first euro trip in the van through france and belgium approx 2200 miles troble free. the van has developed one issue. I cant turn the blower off(its permantely stuck on the highest setting) i can hold the switch to the right and it goes off untill i let go and then back to full power. i have checked what wiring and fusses i could see and cant see anything obviously wrong.

any pointers

fully to the left is 'off'. Does it still run then and what does it do in the other positions?

that sounds like the switch is broken to me.... you can verify by disconnecting the terminals at the back of the switch...

The 'additional load' brought about by partially seized blower motors and old tarnished connectors creates resistance, this resistance results in heat with melted wires and blower switch.
The switches are cheap and easy to replace but remember to make good any damaged wiring and replace any loose/tarnished spade connectors....as a side note* you may still have an underlying issue with a partially seized motor and thats another days job.

sorry i can hold it to the left and it goes off . the switch doesnt actually click between settings its stuck on the high setting.

thanks to ewanmaclean/ cali that looks most likely will order the part tonight and report back

i took apart the heating control unit all the wires look to be intact and in good condition so i just replaced the switch which has resolved the problem. thanks for the advice and pointing me in the right direction
