Hello to everybody, I've not been on for a while. ( not having a good van year.... )

I have a problem. My alternator has died. Tryed replacing what can be replaced but to no avale. So... simple enough new unit required. No-one seems to stock the correct unit. All new ones that I've found have a spacer(for want of a better description) between the the pulley wheel and the fan(?) on the front of the alternator. Its about 30mm and means the pulley wheels won't line up. I'm guessing this will either strip the belt in seconds or just throw it off. JK's answer is we know, you need to swap the pulley wheels over. Easier said than done! Neither old or new nut will budge at all. I'm now trawling for 2nd hand units but does anyone know anyone who supplies original spec units. And am I the only person struggling with this because of something obvious I've missed!!

What has died on it - symptoms? Field coils are available as are bearings,stators, etc., in fact everything that can be refurbished. The nuts and pulleys will come off with the judicious application of a screwdriver to lock it. Hold the alternator in a vice or leave it on the engine.
Get it refurbished by a Bosch agent if you can't do it yourself.

I've tryed locking it with a screwdriver, All I acheived was to bend the fan blades(?) and take a sizable chunk of skin off my knuckles! The alternator won't split apart without remove the pulley wheel assembly first and if I could get that off...

Alternators available at GSF I'm sure.

BTW as long as the mounting is the same just remove your old alt. pulley and fit it to the new alt.
Usually an alternator/starter specialist will do this for you

Two words....Air Gun.....I know, easy if you have one but if not just take it to your local tyre fitters or garage, someone will gun it for you if you bung em a fiver.
