You need to turn the seat 180 degrees so it's facing the back. Then move seat back as far as it will go. You will then have just enough room to get battery out

i could on mine? bit of a faff, experiment with sliding seat back and forward as your turning it. Does work, promise
Or you can cheat like kev says and take seat out, then swivel base

Turn seat nearly 90deg so its front is facing you, and look at the seat runner, there is a small latch, lift it and slide the seat off and out of the van. Then turn the seat base so it is back to front, you can now get to the battery. Mal.

I have to slide seat off from normal facing front position. Make sure seat back is angle back enough so it clears steering wheel allowing seat to clear front of track. As in seat back to steering wheel stops seat from sliding forward enough to clear track.
Then turn base back to front. and cover just clears base and opens. Battery just clears too. :ok

Vans with power steering have smaller steering wheel so more seat to wheel clearance.
