Hi people

My first post here. Just took the loan plunge and got myself a G-reg T25, 1.6 TD from a friend, paid £3000 as he was very kind. Needs some body work etc but seems solid underneath.

I plan to defeat the rust problems (esp around the windows), fill, sand and then Roller-paint it white again. Then stick my 18" wheels on using PCD converters. And fit my sound system. In the reverse order

Now being thats an attractive sounding vehicle once all the work is done. I don't feel happy with the security of these vans considering their value, once in nice condition. (my car had all the security stuff as standard as it was 97')

I probably wouldn't use the remote start. simply cos when it's freezing (when I'd want it), I don't reckon you'd start it first time (or would it?). Also I've heard these starters can invalidate insurance (can anyone shed light on this?)

Now, I'd want the central locks, the immobilizer, alarm system and ultrasonic sensors. And I'd do it myself.

Has anyone had experience fitting these to T25's. My main query I guess is the central locking hardware. As the rest of its going to be universal (I think?)


very happy to have joined, and look forward to making myself a lovely bus to take the lady and pup on many adventures (we're sick of camping with the car and a £22 pop-up tent. Did this all around the alps for 3 months and it was hard going!!)

not even to tell me if it cold starts first, second or 32nd time.

Do people not often alarm/immob these vans.

Not so much no takers as we don't like to discuss vehicle security in open forums I'm afraid. There are deeper areas of the site for that.

oh I see officer. I actually bought your DVD today to help me with the painting.

How can I find such information about fitting these security kits? Is there someone in the know or a certain area of the forum I haven't spotted?

An alarm is only as good as the person fitting it. Any alarm that costs less than a few hundred quid and isn't professionally installed would slow down a professional thief by about 30 seconds. I've got a self fitted alarm, its flashing blue LED might deter a passing toe-rag but if someone really wants my van it isn't going to stop them driving it away. The shock sensor does go off when the dust-cart gets too close so it does at least stop the paintwork getting scratched. I didn't wire up the remote starting because I can't think of anything more sad then watching a van that's been left in gear start and drive off on is own down the road. I can't help with the remote locking but I'd be surprised if the actuators would work on the sliding door and tailgate, so at best you'd probably only have the front doors locking.

For slider you'll need a van slider contact plate to provide power to actuator when door is shut. You can get those on ebay. Tis possible to actuate the lot but I tend to agree that you should really concentrate on making it damned hard to drive away easily. PM me if you want some very simple ideas to do that. Members only area of forums (you need full not cursory membership) has a wealth of info on alarms and suchlike.

For the record, my van shouts at anyone it isn't keen on - literally. Tends to put off many. If they persist it makes one hell of a fuss and they soon clear the area. My youngster enjoys triggering the voice remotely when people pass by - makes them jump.
