Gotta 'clonk'when braking....

Hello darlings!!

At a rather awkward time when I really need the van (it is primary wheels now) to get from where I am living to the surgery every day for essential injections that are actually keeping me alive at present.... the van has developed a slight 'clonk' beneath the driver's side floor whenever I brake, even gently.

I can't physically get under it to have a look at this time due to having just suffered yet another DVT.

The van is OK in every other respect.... suspension seems fine.... braking is even and smooth.... I am an extremely cautious and slow driver... much to other road users chagrin (great word!)..... but I am wondering whether, by ignoring this for the time being, I am driving myself into a potentially dangerous situation, or am I just getting paranoid?

Whatdya think guys?? Should I park it up until I can investigate... which would be very inconvenient at this time, or ignore it until something falls off?

If I get the van to Apps Court, is anyone going who could check it out for me?

(I am not driving more than a mile a day, and all within a 30mph limit. It is going to be a few weeks before I will be fit enough to do any physical work on it myself.)

i'm sure if you get to apps there will be no problem getting it looked at, and there is a GSF not too far away iirc...

sounds like a drip link has either snapped or the bushings have gone to me.....

get well soonest tho....

I was going to suggest you slide the driver's seat forward and remove the bottle of Malt, storing it in a cupboard or something is less noisy but what Steve said is more sensible.

Get better soon is good advice also, I'm sure we're all sending our best as it were.

I had a clonking noise under braking and it turned out to be a broken arm on the anti roll bar.

The arm just sings about and bashes agains the body.

Pop into a qwik fit and ask them to have a look.

You can remove it and carry on driving and probably wont notice much difference, it will drive just the same.

Good luck

I found out a few yers ago that is was the big bolt that holds the suspension in at the top was very loose

I had the same as Louey and didn't realise until after I had bought the new top bushes :( easy fix as long as you can get the camber angle back, I set mine by eye 3 years ago and no funny were or whatever but to do it right needs laser alignment if you can find somewhere to do something that big.

Regret I'm no longer allowed to drink..... fearful prospect that!

Actually the clonk stopped this morning, so either it's got better, or something's fallen off.

I'll get one of you young agile blokes to have a look underneath for me at Apps.

cheers all

Canaldrifter,
At least it wasn't a 'gator from the canal.
Richnewton appears to have been having trouble with one here

Get well soon,
