I'm in the process of building a small utility trailer and am trying to work out the height of the drawbar (trailer coupling).
As it is going to be used behind all 3 of my vehicles (stock height T3 caravelle, bay camper and 1970 beetle) i'm going to try and make its drawbar so it fits all 3 without being at extreme angles.
If i build it the correct height for my bug it'll point skywards on my bay (and probably my caravelle too) but if i build it somewhere between the two it should be OK.

The problem is, at the moment my caravelle doesn't have a towbar fitted so i'm unsure what height the top of the towball will be at when fitted.

Can someone with a towbar on their van please do me a favour and measure from the ground to the top of the towball?

The height of mine is 17.5 inches445 mm, standard tyres and setup (not lowered or modified)

Thats great. The one on my bay is at 18". Think i'll need to make it with a reversable hitch to get the 2 heights though as the bug is at 10".

I think you can get bolt on plates with holes at different heights to mount the towball to get the towed trailer at a level deemed ok, just a matter of 2 bolts to adjust ride height of drawbar, thus future proof for any towed article

Hi, mine is also 17.5, factory fit towbar with swan neck, with standard springs.

I've wanted one of these westfalia wolfsburg trailers for years, so am going to try and make something similar but using 10" wheels and indespension units.

Standard suspension and tyres on Westy. Height halfway up towball is 17.5 inches.
