I would like to wire a twin plug setup into the best places.
This includes both types of connector plugs, so there is power going to the trailer.
Will I need to fit extra relays or is there a place to take power from,
that only gives power when the motor is running.

This would run two power lines to the socket,
one for charging the trailers battery, and one for running an accessory such as a fridge while towing.

Does anyone have experience of this please?

you need to get on the caravanning forums and ask them, one thing tho if you all ready have a split charge on the camper then add another battery and fridge to the circuit the alternator might well start to struggle!

Will you have two fridges running?
ie the camper and the trailer.

Will power be required in the trailer when the engine is off?
If so what for
Is it a burgervan or summat?

will you be touring around or at a campsite with hook up?

Assuming you have a petrol engine with the battery at the front. Run a cable from the battery cable connection on the starter motor to a supplementary fuse box in the engine bay (minimum two fuses). Connect one fuse direct to pin 4 of the second trailer socket for permanent live power and connect the other fuse via a split charge relay to pin 6 for the fridge and battery charging some older caravans (pre 1998) also connect pin 2 to the split charge relay. Connect pin 3 for the earth return to the body.

I have a caravelle and am often towing,
it has a standard single socket at the moment, but with some dodgy connections.
I am away at the moment in a caravan that should have two sockets on the van so it would work better.
This got me thinking about the wiring.
However I would love to have sockets that covered every eventuality as I often tow all sorts of things.

I dont have a fridge or suchlike in the caravelle, but that is worth considering too,
as who knows, it is a nice idea, but a stirling and leisure battery on the van is on the wishlist...
