Does anyone have any good campsite suggestions for the West coast of France? There seems to be an abundance of options all the way down the coast, but obviously previous experience is always good to know.

There's 13 of us looking to take the vans down in July next year, so something close to a beach and plenty for kids to do would be a bonus

Hi we are off to the Vendee ( West coast in a couple of weeks) we are going to a site called Le Pin Parasol .It is quite well rated on the camping forums, but I will post and let you know how we get on when I return

we did Le sables and areas around its really good and the beach is great a good site is le sables de olone. Just out side the town and camping area is right next to the beach with one of rhe best sunsets you will ever see. Not much happens on the site but has a pool and a very expensive take away

We stayed at Le Logis, Ronce le Ban, in St Augustine just north of Royan last year which was very nice with good size pitches (ask for a semi shaded site).

We were in that area last week and their is loads of wild camping along the coast by La Palmyre Zoo. Excellent beaches, zoo for kids, and lots of fellow motor homers for comfort/security. There are showers on the beaches and toilets can be located fairly easily - that is definetly what I would do.

For the last few years we have carried on further south than the Vendee to the Landes area (includes Hossegor/Cap Breton/Biarritz).

We actually like to go a little more North than Hossegor and have stayed at St Julien and also Lit et Mixe. Absolutely fantastic beaches at Contis Plage, Espacier and Cap d'l'homy. We personally didn't like the Vendee at all as found it a bit too crowded for our liking.

Saying that the Landes area has got noticeabley busier even over the last few years we have been going and of course is a bit of a longer drive than the Vendee.

I'm also interested in doing simmilar next year. Must have good beaches, surf and hopefully sun, however crowded resorts do not apeal. I presume I would have to travel below Brittany? Never venture out of UK with the van before. Will read with interest your views and recommendations.

We stayed on a lovely site in Bidart (Vendee region, just before Biarritz). The site was right beside a lovely beach, many an evening was spent barbecuing, watching the sun set over the sea. A long while ago now so I've forgotten the name, it wouldn't take too long to search it out again if you were interested in travelling that far down.

If you're looking for somewhere a little closer to home, there are some nice spots in Normandy too - we've recently stayed in the Honfleur region, the coastline around there is quite extensive but the weather's a little more home from home.

I'd appreciate any recommendations & advice like I said not ventured out of UK, but fancy some sun etc.
Is the surfing any good at those beaches you BBQd on? Do the french have beach life guards like UK? Peace of mind with the children.

we came back a cpl of weeks ago and theres loads,www.camping-treguer-plage.com , we stayed here first and it was great,fresh bread every morning and you're right on the beach.theres a pool on site but we never really used it.We moved on to a cpl of wild camping spots reccomended by jed the spread,Here, http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=+Plage" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;, ... 0&t=h&z=18 and here , http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=+Plage" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;, ... 0&t=h&z=19 ,or a little further on is a small road,if you google earth it you can see it,its on the left and you can drive right down onto the beach like we did!...on our way back we used a cpl of france passion sites(google it they're excellent!) and our final stop before the drive home was Camping Le Brévedent,same again just google it....good for the kids,lovely spot great atmosphere...good luck and have fun!

Hello as promised my review on the campsite we returned from yesterday. We stayed at Le Pin Parasol http://www.campingpinparasol.fr/index.php?lg=en" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; If you look at the web site it will show you all you need to know. My thoughts are it was spotlessly cleaned always, with good shower blocks etc. nice swimming pools with ping pong / table football etc games room. there was a small bar with a relaxed atmosphere. An equal mix of french, english and dutch people there. The pitches where generous and the lake has nice walks/cycle trails around it. Not far from hypermarkets and lots of beaches to choose from, this would be a great site for anyone who doesn't do loud sites, it is good for families who want to chill with enough facilities to keep you all happy without any lairy types there. We booked it through the caravan club but we also e-mailed the site direct to request which pitch we wanted prior to arrival, they were very good to deal with. would definately go there again. Hope this helps.
