right...

Dunno what research you've done...

-The country is about the size of Wales.

-There is a lot of war related historical stuff there as its a country stuck between Italy, Austria and Hungary

-It has a mahoosive J shaped motorway from North that runs down to the Adriatic bit of sea they have in the South west, motorways are toll based but not expensive and the best way to get around.

-The country tourism is predominately sold as an outdoor recreation country - Caving and walking being the 2 biggest but also includes ski/snowboarding, climbing, water sports and mountain biking.

-As mentioned caving is seen as pretty much the biggest crowd draw -go and find the Postonja and the Ć kocjanske show caves - you're lad will love em both, Postonja show cave also has some Proteus on display - I'll let you look them up and find out how rare and odd they are and Ć kocjanske show cave is accepted as being the worlds largest cave canyon at nearly a thousand feet high!!
http://www.park-skocjanske-jame.si/cgi- ... =4&kajje=1
http://www.postojnska-jama.si/eng//
http://www.travelwithachallenge.com/Slo ... rTreks.htm

- Also visit Predjama Castle where Erazem Lueger got caught up in a siege and eventually was killed with a cannon ball whilst on the loo hehe http://www.castles.nl/eur/sl/pj/pj.html

-The country is about 80% covered in forest and has a good population of bears which if your quiet and careful can be spotted whilst walking - I didnt see any

-The wine region in the south east produces more wine than the bordeaux in France! :ok

- There is a teeny weeny section of coast line in the far south west

- Weather in winter gets down to -35 and in summer is anything upto +35 and being stuck between the adriatic in the south west and the Julian Alps in the north you get some of the BEST lightening shows I've seen anywhere in the world, that said the air can be really really heavy and in the afternoons you often hear thunder rumbling for hours.

-Street lights go off at mid-night in rural areas

- Everyone speaks great English but love it if you try and speak some Slovenian :ok

- **IMPORTANT** Watch out for ticks and learn how to remove them/how to deal with them, especially with little ones, in the summer ticks are a big problem with the amount of trees and the hot damp weather and encephalitis and Lyme disease are a known risk. http://www.anapsid.org/lyme/removingticks.html

- As mentioned Lake Bled is fantastic, that said all the lakes and mountains in the North are stunning...

....hope some if this helps you out a bit matey - Get off the beaten track and visit some pubs, villages and see the real Slovenia as its a really beautiful country with beautiful people and a really pleasant way of life and lastly do us one of your Jed special video's so I can get some motivation to get myself back over there!

I also want to say thanks Dug.

I think we'll be taking a trip down there in September, it's only 8 hours away.
I can strap my canoe on the roof, throw a couple of fishing rods in and off we go.

Cheers. :ok

from my post from April

Zagreb to Ljlublana: Nice Roads here again

Campsite:http://www.ljubljanaresort.si/en/home_12/ nice campsite, on the north of the city, its on the quiet end of a street which goes right to the centre, so the public bus just goes straight down to the centre. Go up on the castle too, nice views

Ljlublana to Lake Bled: Roads are all amazing here

No camp site as it piddled down here, wanted to do the downhill rollercoaster but was closed. Quick stop for some food (mexican place lol) and photos before pushing on north looking for dryer weather

But the white water rafting in Bohinj was recommended to us, would like to try that in the future
