We will be in the Cognac area at the end of this month. not sure how we will cope with all that heavy traffic.

That spot looks interesting, do you camp there or is it a day visit?

Hello Adrian, its quite near us so a bit coals to Newcastle if thats the correct metaphor. You could camp there as there are no residential properties nearby and the French are quite tolerant as long as you leave the place clean and tidy but that applies anywhere I guess

Here is a link ... it is a kilometer SW of Les Gours village although oddly it doesnt show up as a lake, it looks like a circular footpath?

Thanks for the link, I can't remember the name of the village we are staying at, I know it's fairly near the cognac distillery as my friends wife works there as a tour guide. When I find out the name, I will let you know.

The place we are staying for a couple of days is a village near matha, Looks like it's just down the road from there.

No we are staying at my Daughters partners Brothers place on his land for a couple of days and then heading down the west coast. Still can't remember the name of the village but I know Matha is the nearest town.

After a cooler period the sun came out blistering hot again yesterday and we had the afternoon at the Plan d eau at Thors near Matha. There is a small community campsite adjoining the lake with peddle boats and a nice bar that serves good food at a sensible price. If you have kids especially its a good spot to spend a few days without denting your wallet beyond repair
