hi all
something has been bugging me. under my 2.0 cu is there supposed to be tins above the heat exchangers in line with the bottom of the rocker covers spanning the gap below the push rod tubes. one side has got a completely knackered bit of metal and the other hasn't. could someone post a pic of what they are supposed to look like if they are supposed to be there?

yeah, must be as there is nothing protecting them. are they essential for cooling or just a guard? i bought what i thought were them but i said to the guy i needed the lower tins and i think he has sent me the ones that go above the pushrod tubes. i am new to this Aircooled thing, she doesnt over heat. smells hot though but think that was due to rocker cover gaskets leaking and still burning the oil off. i take it these guards would have gone between the oil leak and heat exchangers if you know what i mean? i do have a haynes but would like to know from the guys in the know. i am travelling to kent from soton on the weekend with the family and would like to be able to listen to the radio instead of constantly listening to the engine if you know what i mean.
sorry for all the questions

if you have a leak from your push rod tube seals or the rocker cover gasket, the covers won't help, only changing them will stop the leak.

The guards are there to stop damage to the tubes and seals from road debris.. As you have found out.

We love questions, as long as the answers are taken in the knowledge that they stem from often limited descriptions.
