Hi anyone driven along this route, either the Grand or Petite. We are at Chamonix for a few days and are travelling in our T25 (Maisy) down to Nice but want to take a detour through Switzerland and Italy without going through the Mont Blanc tunnel. Any advice is welcome...

we've just done the petit (i think) bernard route a few months ago. Absolutley incredible all round there, and whilst it is a lot longer than the tunnel it still dosnt cost you as much and the views are staggering. Chamonix is awesome aint it!? Also the tunnel is about 55 euros in case you were wondering. We got there without finding out how much it was and by the time i had found the damage there was a big queue of cars behind me. Bummer! Boring as hell too...

Thanks for your reply, and you are right it is beautiful round here. With the price of the tunnel we will definitely be going around the road way, as we have heard that there are long delays through the tunnel also. Treating ourselves to a trip on the mont blanc tramway tomorrow from st. gervais, at 92 euros for 2 adults and one child it's definitely a treat!
