Hi All,
I have a few pictures of the ongoing van restoration as promised. If your a purist, you may as well look away now as I am afraid the objective is a presentable, rust free, reliable and solid van. - Not a a original restoration.

I have an Autohomes Cameo, hightop camper. It was bought from a local girl who loved it but didn't have any resources to keep an old van on the road. It is very original but the bodywork was showing serious signs of deterioration.

Most windows were showing rust, rear corners rusty, frisge side seem very rusty with holes! Lower front panel had hole. Reaers seems starting to go... After looking on the forums it's gone in all the usual areas. +On the plus side the van had never been repaired and what you see is what you get and apart from the areas described the van is very solid indeed.

Ive never really done any car restoration work before and have no welder so I am working with what I got. - Luckily the rust areas are superficial and not in structural areas so my rivet gun and aluminium panels will do the job nicely!

I am aproaching all rust I encounter in the same way. - Basically removing it all, removing some more, epoxy rust treat with Vactan/Krust, then several coats of antirust primer and then several coats of anti rust paint. Aluminium areas are tack primered , combiprimered then painted. I dont want it back for the forseeable future.

Here are a few pictures of work so far. please remember , this is a work in progress, not the final result!

All bodywork will be repainted. - Windows are currently out and I am repairing the frames, Luckily, they are no so bad they have holes and compared to some ive seen on here they are very solid. Pulled all the front carpets out today and no rust!

First job was to make a garage...

Hi Mark,

I am cutting the nasty stuff out, and grinding back to shiney metal. When i reach shiney silver i cut a bit more out then ive been using Vactan or krust then rustoleum combiprimer follower by combicolour in grey... No1 priority is to get rid of it all before painting.

It's going well so far. I hope it will last for years to come once complete.
