Converting a late sliding door to fit an early version?

Hi all,

urgent bit of advice please, does anyone know if it is possible to convert a late sliding door to fit an early version van. Long story but essentially we bought a door listed as an early version on ebay and having come to fit it found that it is in fact a late version, I cannot get hold of the seller any longer as he is no longer registered on ebay.

Any advice greatly appreciated as always!

Sean

It can be done but by the time you have removed everything that needs to be changed and refit all the bits off the same bus as the door you have got it is just a lot easier and cheaper to buy the right door. What is wrong with your original door?

We bought what we thought was (and was described as) an early door on ebay which has turned out to be a late door, trouble is we are so far down the line with the restoration that we dont have long left as we are due to leave for a two week road trip to Scotland on the 19th August and we must fit it a shakedown trip the weekend before as the van has been stood idle since March.

What are the alterations that need to be done?

thanks for this mate

The original door is rotten at the bottom and around the window, we have replaced all the other side windows with factory fit window panels and so the old door factory window would stand out like a sore thumb! Her who has to be obeyed does not want to simply put the old door back on as it would need spraying to match the new paint job and then we would have to get it replaced anyway when we got back, and so, alas, we need a new one.

The biggest problem i think is the c posts are different shapes where the catches are. You would need to fab something up or hace a c post of a late van. Better off just telling the wife that it will end up a lot more cost and time. Best bet is to live with it as mickey says and sort it when your back. :D
