There aren't any campsites near Tynemouth (apart from a Caravan Club site near Earsdon / Seaton Sluice but it is usually fully booked). Think the organisers might've made arrangements for an overnight stop somewhere though (or was that just a possible idea that was discussed for subsequent years if the event is repeated, I can't remember for sure).

There used to be a site at Ashington (good few miles away from Tynemouth though) which was run by the local council but last I heard they had it up for sale so not sure if it is still open.

There are other nice places to stay in Northumberland, but it just depends how near to Tynemouth you want to be. Try Camping and Caravan Club website or UK campsite website and search for places near NE30. Sites will be busy due to school hols though.

There is a campsite at South Sheilds right on the beach and a 15 min walk from the ferry across the tyne to tynemouth ........ just an option.

but don't forget that the Tyne ferry is for foot passengers only and puts into North Shields not Tynemouth, so you'd be looking at another 10 - 15 mins walk when you land on this side of the river as well.
