Service induced power steering problem

Good Afternoon all,

I am after some advice please. I had the van serviced at a vw specialist on Wednesday; plugs oil etc. I asked them to look at the power steering on our 2.1 multivan also as the belt was squeeking on full lock.

Anyway they replaced the belt and on the drive home it was all good; however yesterday on a 15 minute journey to the coast whilst reverse parking on full lock masses of smoke started plooming out. Upon investigation the cause was the pump casing spurting fluid out onto the hot engine. On closer inspection the top left bolt which holds the bracket and casing together was loose and could be wound in by hand. I didnt have any tools but the RAC man came and tightened it all back up.

My question is will this have damaged any seal between the two casings? I am off to France next week and I would like not to have any reprecussions whilst there. Any advice would be appreciated. :D

Cheers

if you've tightened it back up and its not leaking, you should be fine. To be honest even if it starts leaking again in the back of beyond, it's not a problem, just cut the belt and carry on as normal. I drove mine like that for months until i got around to fixing it

Hi Lloyd,

Thank you for the reply. Ok that is re-assuring; the garage are going to take a look on friday anyway but I didn't think about cutting the belt.
