safety advice please

Mornin all,

Expecting a set of springs from Mr. Baxter this week plus need to spray wheels (never get them powder coated) and some checking to do on exhaust, gear linkage and rear driveshaft.

Is it safe to have the van on 2 sets of suitable axle stands e.g. 3-6 ton capability taking all the usual precautions to get it up there?
Is it safe for me to be under it?
I would also like to run it in 'G' (while up) to have a listen for a slight noise that I'd like to identify. This shouldn't cause any damage should it?

Many thanks,

Tony

we did the dodoka on 4 x 6 tonne axle stands and it was safe, on a solid concrete floor, but it's quite a trick getting it up onto 4 safely, depends on what jacking method you use, pairs of hi lift jacks work great and leave room to position the jacks.
I have run engines up when the rear is jacked on a 2wd and checked the installation before dropping it back down, but never done it on a syncro with all 4 wheels in the air except on a 2 poster ramp
noise in G that'll probably be the pinion bearing, check the plug it'll be heavy with a sludgy stem I bet, leave it too long and you'll need a new g gear and synchro inner hub, and worse case a new c and p set if the bearings under g collapse

Hi Aiden,

Many thanks.

It's actually first gear with this slight cluncking and I suppose you'd call it mild lurching; e.g. sometimes noticable in car parks but also once or twice in 2nd or 3rd and seems to be speed related. It's also intermittant. Maybe it's more than one issue?

Thanks again,

Tony
