hi im just in the process of buying my first campervan(t25) and just wandering if it is worth joining and clubs such as the caravan club or camping and caravan club etc?

We are members of the camping and caravan club , well worth the money in my eyes.
I get my mother in law to get it me as a birthday prezzie

You get the big book of site ,which shows you all the little sites ( around £6 per night) , monthly mag which tells you about the clubs meets , now I know that sound all ' ding dang douly ' but we have been to a few of the 'temp' sites and saved ££ and you can join in if thats your thing or just use the site as ermm well a site.

Also you get two cards , so get one in your missus name ( maiden if married) or ask a mate to join with you

We are members of the Camping and Caravaning club and have been members of the Caravan club in the past, both clubs sites are really good clean tidy good facilities and reasonably cheap and very peaceful, the only noticible differnce I found between the two was that Camping and caravan club sites appeared more relaxed and laid back and had a broader spectrum of people on site I suppose this might be because there are different type of campers i.e caravans tents motorhomes camper vans etc where as Caravan club sites tend to be mainly Caravans and motorhomes. Both clubs offer some good services such as insurance technical help and a foriegn travel service which we used a few time when we went over to france.

I've been a member of the Camping & Caravan Club for a couple of years now and think it's excellent value at around £35 per year (I think). Memebership also gets you a discount at Forest Holiday sites, e.g. Forest of Dean & New Forest.

We have been members of the caravan club for quite a while but when we sold the caravan last year and bought our westy we also joined the caravan and camping club.Both offer very good sites and facilities but I have to agree that there is certainly alot of snobbery amongst many of the caravan club members.This was particulary highlighted during a recent stay at the caravan club site on the gower pennisula when two old farts stood in front of our van and awning moaning about how much space we were obviously taking up, despite the fact that they both had large caravans with large awnings.When we stayed at the caravan and camping site at Milton Keynes over easter, nearly everbody would say hello and many people would stop and talk about the van.It would not be fair to say that all caravan club members are like this and we have had some fantastic holidays over the years at their sites and hope to have more in the future.

And dont forget.You have to be in bed for 9.30

We joined both in our time .The caravan club is good, as you can book stuff up in advance and if the weather looks rubbish there is no cancellation charge ,the sites are a known quantity (usually) and have very nice shower blocks etc. some times staff can be a little pedantic i.e. van parked 0.0001mm too far to the left/right, but you just have to laugh at those types. The camping and caravan clubs sites very often allow non members to camp ( you just pay a little more per night) so depends ghow often you use them as to weather or not it's worth paying the membership. personaly I would only join the caravan club and then just book the other site on a pay as you go basis. ( one note worthy thing is the caravan club always has sites around attractions Longleat, legoland etc. so If like us you have kids and make a weekend of these places thats ideal. ( Still very nice to go to the little farm campsites and get away from the car park layout that alot of larger sites have....

Both of the clubs have these smaller "sites". Excellent value for money and a lot more relaxed and informal, but often very minimal facilities. Just depends what you prefer.
