Garage heights

Ok here's a situation I will not find myself in again and I really do not want to make a pigs ear of it... Have finally got planning permission to build a double garage with room above. The overall dimensions are fixed by the PP but internally I can build to suit, including doors etc. Bearing in mind the garage will need to have a ceiling ( not ideal but the room above is needed - what sort of door opening would fit a syncro 16" maybe with pop top ( trying to Vw futureproof!) Also as long as there is room to walk around upstairs I can adjust the height of the ceiling but eating in to the room - my preference is for more in the garage - it's not a perfect world but what heights are you guys working with and how is that for practicalities?
Would you go for a pair of twin doors or one big up and over - although access would be more limited with the double door option if they opened outwards I could max useful space inside - a rolling door would be no good as they also chew up valuable internal space.
Any pics of people's garages / with without vehicles would be really helpful. Cheers Jes

You could try and get bi-fold twin doors to reduce the opening space required. An up & over will be a right pain

figure on 9 foot for a hitop plus you'll want a couple of foot of headroom to allow you to jack it up and put it on axle stands to work on the underside

as aidan sais about 9ft is a good height, i and others have been working at a small holding with a small hanger type garage/workshop the doors are just over 8ft, the worksop is domed shaped so there is plenty of space.

You could include a pit if the ground below permits. I had the same thought as John about the doors, they seem to have been a popular solution for garages in past times before the rollers took over on modern units.

My 16" pop top is about 214cm at the sky lite. I made my garge doors good and high to alow for any future mods at 238cm (barn door type rather than up and over) and there is plenty of room.

It is a bit higher than standard, mainly beocuse of the tires but i rattle on about that on my thread if you are interested.

mine is as above, 2.2m standard height, standard tyres with factory pop top. I'd want at least 2.5m to be safe, even then if you have a roof rack you'd have to take it off
