Hello, I have a 1987 watercooled 1.9 DG 78bhp auto and the previous owner had fitted an EMPI duel quitet pack exhaust system (which appears to be for buses up to 1985 only?). The silencer box and tailpipe are rusted and the exhaust is noisy.

My questions is should I just replace the box and tailpipe with another EMPI system or should I fit a new system that is designed for a 1987 1.9 bus? I want the bus to be as quiet as possible but don't know how different exhausts impact on performamce (or not).

The Empi ones have a bad reputation for quality and not lasting long at all.
Plus they are noisy. ( = "Quiet Pack" = )

The complete system for the 87 version is EXPENSIVE but if you can afford it is the way to go, esp if you can afford a stainless steel system.

However, if money is tight the earlier system, bought as a complete system, will fit just fine. This is what I did.

E D I T = I just checked Europarts online store and the T25 system is not listed but they do do them ( I got mine from them )

Most folks on here would say avoid Just Kampers as the quality of their stuff is often in doubt.

Either way buy a fitting kit ( Gaskets and nuts and bolts ) from either of the above.
Be prepared for seized up nuts, bolts and astuds. Use PlusGas to help release them, do NOT use WD40 (it often makes matters worse)
Heat from a blow torch is also recommended to loosen seized studs etc.
Remember, if you break a stud or nut off close to the head be prepared for some major hassles getting the remains out

please read the wiki for exhaust advice, it is very comprehensive.

That looks very cool and not a bad price for what you get.

iirc, the std later system, if bought as a decent quality item (Ernst etc) in mild steel, is dearer than that !
