Does anyone have any advise regarding the procedure for replacing the oil pump in a diesel block. I'm guessing it comes out through the sump.

Yes sump off 2 bolts holding the pump on, in itself not difficult but sump off/on can be a bugger, need a long hex or slim socket for the hidden ones in the bellhousing end. You may want to put a smear of hylomar around the sump sealing faces. Fit all the hex nuts loosely then make sure you have the 2 bolts through the gear box bell housing are done up firmly before you go back and start tightening the 20 or so hex nuts (tighten them up in two stages opposites as much as possible. If you tighten the hex bolts up first and then the bell housing bolts you could crack the sump apparently.

I have heard the ones from GSF are not right and have to be filled down, best get one from Brickwerks.

Mine fitted ok but the windage tray needed to be cut to fit it.

I ditched the windage when I fitted the 1Y, I thought that was what you were supposed to do?
