Hi everyone
I've been looking at the Wiki site and some older forums, but just need a little help about fitting larger mirrors to the bus.
What am I looking for? ...LT or Syncro...or are they really the same? I know they are hard to get nowadays, so if I find a set I want to make sure they'll work. I'll be going to Canada in Aug,so I can look there too.
For the top braket, it looks like I'd have to drill some holes to fit it, but the bottom looks like it might match up ok, but I read some people had to drill a hole when it didn't.
Are there any alternitives? The only reason i'm thinking of doing this is my wife finds it hard to see using the standard mirrors. (Oh, yeah, its a LHD.)

defo need to drill for the top mounts, syncro ones will fit the bottom mounts lt you need to drill one hole. I used rivnuts so it give a proper fixing rather than crappy rivits!

Give a general idea of difference between LT and Syncro. LT lower mounts come in 2 flavors.. early with flat strap mount and late with syncro like mount. Lower mount spacing is different between LT and syncro. Have heard of filling LT screw holes with liquid metal.. JB Weld.. and redrilling to t25 spacing. I shortened the arm into lower mount on my LT mirror arms and they are now vertical. Drift the pin out, work arm out of mount, cut off about 3" and put back together.

There are also the heated electric caravelle type mirrors, as you are LHD slightly more easy to get, try ebay.de search for

Many years ago I nearly had a cyclist off his bike when I was turning left (his fault not mine) but ever since I've always set the passenger side one to view side of van and part of the road to make sure the blind spot is covered (purely for the benefit of oblivious cyclists). On my side, whilst the mirror is sometimes useful, especially coming down slip roads to join motorways, theres no substitute for a glance to the side and behind so all in all I'm not overly reliant on mirrors. Spatial awareness is the key with these things.

I still find having the window down and hanging out the side is best way to reverse though

You noticed how newbie passengers hit the imaginary brake pedal if you're less the 3ft from the car in front in heavy traffic or at the lights??

Just out of interest Classic now remake the syncro mirrors for ££££££ a pair and you can get them from ebay.de too but how much were they from VW before they went obsolete?
