The clam shell is the same. The heavy duty carrier is different.

the 2wd clamshell comes in 185 and 205 sizes, seem to be fitted to some early syncros, the later HD syncro one takes a 205, someone has magaaged to get a 215/75/15 AT in but I've tried a few and they won't fit between the chassis rails without further clearancing

Chris, I'm confident that the one you got from me is the 205 type as it's identical to the one on the SA and that has 205/15/65 as standard.

No you can't have your money back

the difference between the 185 and the 205 version is not obvious, but the tell tale is the tang for the bolt at the front the 185 one is flush with the pan the 205 one sticks up by a couple of cm, it took me 3 years to find one when I was looking as they are pretty rare and people had been scrapping velles with alloys and 205 tyres and selling the wheels without realising the carriers were different so they went on the boat to china with the rest of the scrap

A 205/65/15 tyre is 4mm smaller on diameter than a 185R 14. A 205R 14 is 36mm larger on diameter than the standard 185R 14 and a 215/75/15 is 56mm larger on diameter than a 185R 14. Dave has a spare whell carrier like the one in Jed's photo. Get it copied

it's the depth of the carrier that varies not the width as the width of the tyre varies, the width is limited by the chassis rails which are already clearanced to take the 205R14C

This is the one that I sent to Chris, taken from the C-plate Caravelle syncro:

That bolt tang isn't flush, it's go a distinct standoff. So it's a syncro one, going by what Aidan says...

So, how would i go about fitting a 15'' Mercedes steel wheel with 215/75R15 BF Goodrich AT Tyre in a clamshell? I've seen a link that chops the brackets off. Is that the only way?

Pretty much ....... unless you want to modify the chassis legs!

It would be great if someone with an engineering background could make these brackets up if cheap enough, I know the dimensions were posted on the samba. :whistle
