Headlights inoperative

Hi

I've got a T25 Left hook caravelle that has just failed it MOT with a list of biblical proportions of faults. Some of it I'm going to sort myself, some of it will be done by my friendly neighbourhood extortionist (mechanic).

The headlight dipped beam isn't working on the L & R sides. Have gone thru the obvious things, changing bulbs, checking fuses. I've got a new switch on order. Side lights are operating, and main beam works also. Just no headlights. When the switch is "on", the backlight on the dash isn't working either, so I think that its the switch....but if its not.....I'm pretty damn stumped. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks in advance

Mark

Do the headlights use a relay?

No they don't of course sorry.
have you had the switch out to test it?
Is there power to it?

I've even ordered a brand new switch. So the way I see it, the switch works, the fuses are ok, theres no relay that I'm missing, new bulbs fitted also.

The side lights work and the main beam works. So from that I can safely assume that the lights are getting power, and the switch (at least as far as the side lights go) is getting power. Its just the dipped beam thats missing.

I'm at work at the moment, but I recently disconnected the stereo as it was draining the battery. Could the dipped beam have been earthed thru the stereo, which has broken the circuit? :?: :?: :?: :?:

First you need to check the fuses for dip beam are getting power, if not then it is either the dipswitch or a connection between the dipswitch and fuse box.
