I managed to get a used pcb for the dash on the Devon. It started to smoke from one of the "diodes" when I plugged it all in. Question: Is this what happens when they're U/S or do they just go dead? Can I easily solder a replacement one in? I can't get another speedo cluster so need to try to sort this one out.

I don't know much about the t25 electronics but in general you can just remove and solder in a replacemt BUT you MUST find out why the diode smoked in the 1st place and look for further damaged components, a mutimeter would tell if any have gone s/circuit or o/circuit.

Ps if you don't own a desolder tool then just snip the legs and then when you heat up the solder the legs will just drop out. (desolder tool or solder wick is easier and available from maplins) ALSO diodes have polarity on them, take a picture before removing them or take notes.

Thanks for that. Things have moved on now! We have a new/replacement pcb on it's way. Just hope there isn't another fault. Thanks again for taking the trouble to reply.

Been away so only just noticed your post. There are two conventional diodes and it may be worth posting a pic of the one that has failed, I can tell you what it does and why it may have developed a fault together with details on how to replace it so that you have a spare or refit it and sell the replacement if that helps.

Old pcb is well kn@ckered. We tried a solder repair but not succesful. Thanks though. I have a 1.6 diesel type which is not suitable for this vehicle. It looks to have a couple of neat breaks in the "lines" (where it bends). Might have to give someone that as a project!
