I have a 1982 T25. the heaters stuck on hot & I've looked at it above the spare wheel & the Heater control pod is broken (& also fitted upside down so when you put it on hot it would blow cold & vice versa). I have had a look for the part I need on Just campers but there are two heater control pods available.Heater Control Pod ( Nearside / Left) or Heater Control Pod (Offside / Right). does anyone know the difference between the two. There is only one on the van at the moment so I presume it doesnt need two. Its a right hand drive van. Thanks for any help

FWIW I've had a problem on my pickup, where the bowden cable from the control lever to the valve (goes thru bulkhead) gets a kink in it and stops working. First off I though it was the valve (which is next to rad) and went through the hassle of changing that. But the problem remained and then figured out the bowden cable was kinking, I thinks it was routed incorrectly near the control lever.

Hi, the heater pods on an Aircooled sit above the heat exchangers, one on the left and one on the right side of the engine, controlled by cables from the dashboard.
It may be that your cables are broken, or the pods jamed open.

no its definately the pod that is broken. A bit of the housing has snapped off which means when you slide the swith in the van it doesnt move the arm on the pod. Hence its either stuck on cold or hot (or wherever you set it). Which means either constant boiling feet or cold & putting on extra socks. But as all us vw owners are aware whilst I could just put it on cold for extra socks (hot is unbearable if its even slightly sunny) If I hit a traffic jam the engine occasionally needs some help to cool down, so I really need to get it fixed.

p.s its water cooled not Aircooled. Dont know if this is a bonus or not???

the valve is under the van
remove the spare wheel and you can locate the valve by following the heater pipes.
but it's located in the gear linkage well behind the spare wheel

you can manually turn off the hot coolant flow here by closing the valve

The valve in my van ('81 diesel) is just above the floor in the cab, not under the floor behind the spare wheel. Do you think that's a mod on my van? I'm only asking out of idle curiosity to be honest!! The bowden cable to the heater control panel is long gone, but I can reach down and adjust the valve by hand. I hang my house keys on the valve in the summer to keep the heater off as it has a tendency to "spring on".

i've found the pod & its broken. I just need to know which replacement to buy. any ideas or do i need both

you found the valve under the van?

because I don't know what a pod is.. on a water cooled anyway

The heater pods you are referring too on the justkrappers website are for aircold vehicles

Like Kev says there is a heater valve under the spare wheel at the front. The wire from the heater control opens and closes the valve. When you locate it get someone to operate the lever and see if it is moving. If it does not move then then cable is kinked and you need a new cable.

Here is a picture of it and a better source for buying it. Unlike an alarming amount of JK products parts from brickwerks fit and work.

I now have the vw transporter t4 heater valve/pod but need the clip for it that keeps the wires in place. any idea where I can get one
