Hi there. As I am learning about my KY engine and its assorted personality quirks and frustrating stuck things, I came upon an interesting engine nearby that is relatively cheap ($700 US) and seems to be in excellent condition. It is a 1.6 CR engine from an 80's Jetta, as I was told. All German besides a Brazilian head. Just wondering if anyone is familiar with this motor and its' potential compatibility with a vanagon (mine is an '89, currently with the aforementioned 1.7 KY). I'm not familiar with the CR. Engines like this are hard to come by here in Chile and I am thinking about buying for extra parts, if nothing else. Good looking head, IP, injectors, intake/exhaust manifolds, alternator, etc. Good deal?? I'll post some pix tomorrow if I can get them uploaded. Thanks!

Hi mate,

know nowt about your engine....but had brazilian heads on a recon Aircooled....that didn't last the warrenty. Been told the metal is too soft, but don't know how true that is. Maybe a bit of research oh here....Have read stuff about other brazilian parts looking good but of inferior quality!
