Spare wheel under the front 215/75/15

Well I got round to trying it out, and stopped short of modifying the cradle, thinking about it.
Here are some pictures of how a General Grabber 215/75/15 fits under the front.

I wonder if I could move some things to let it fit in a bit higher, at the moment there is the metal rod upper cradle still on top.

Here you can see its snug in the bash-plate cradle.

And for comparison a couple, one with a standard small 14" and one with the big 15"

The idea would be to weld some extra onto the leading edge and move the bracket up the 60mm it needs now,
or less if I can make the wheel fit higher into the space at the front.
I know that it will reduce approach angles, but it will protect my big vulnerable bumper a bit more!
Thoughts welcome, I could just leave the 14" in there as a spare?
