hi all,
hope you can help me out. if i say what i think i know and then if you would correct me i would appreciate it.
i have got to re do the gas in the bus so i am going to put a vent below the fridges and one below the bottle. do the new gas supplies have to be run in copper except for the part that comes off of the regulator to the splitter? any other things i should know ie, access to bottle and room around it. what can be run with gas andwhat distances do they have to be? i am very paranoid about this and am going to get it checked. when i took the original interior out the pipes had no clips on the ends and were run in rubber and they just fell off as i disassembled.

If you're not confident then it might be worth getting a quote from a caravan / gas fitter to install it for you if you were to supply the materials. The cost of just having it checked probably won't be much cheaper than having it properly installed.

yeah, you are right, i am going to get someone to do it for me. just wanted to check the rules. i am confident at doing it as it is not that hard ( i install heating systems for british gas ) but i will have the kids in it so safety is paramount. think i will put the floor vents in to save time and then let the experts take over.

I don't think the current rules can be retrospectively applied to a T25, but obviously if the new rules make an installation safer then it makes sense to take them into account. My van is an Autohomes conversion and wouldn't meet the current guidelines.

My gas locker is an unsealed wooden cupboard with no external access, but it does have drop-out vents in the floor. A new locker should be gas tight, have floor vents and ideally external access.

My gas bottle is held in place by a small wooden wedge screwed to the floor. A new installation would have the bottle clamped or belted to the bodywork.

The gas supply and electrically supply should be kept separate. My van originally had the 240v junction box in the same cupboard as the gas bottles.

The copper pipe work on mine was clipped to the plywood in the back of the cupboard, but after 20+ years the plywood wasn't attached to the frame of the cupboards anymore. On a new van the pipework should be clamped / secured to the bodywork.
