So early days as ive juts bought her but i noticed a continuous squeek today after about 4 miles, this seemed to disappear when i pressed the brake slightly; any ideas anyone?
Also a slight knock under the drivers side, i think it may be a dodgy shock, even though it passed the mot a month ago, any ideas welcome.

If the squeek goes when you press the brake, then its probably brake pads; whip a front wheel off to see how worn they are. Some people put 'copperslip' on the back of the pads which usually stops the noise.
As for the knock, it could be lots of things. Shock absorber, knackered rubber bushes, etc. Look at the antiroll bar bushes [any bushes really] for signs where they might have begun to split. Try to bounce the o/s up and down [not easy on these old girls ] to see if the shocker is making a noise, etc. Lots of permutations really ....

The squeak is caused by the same effect as a bow drawn over a violin string.
It resonates against the back of a pad with the calliper.
Poor quality pads sometimes cause this, easily cured with HMP silicone grease, molybdate grease or copperslip
Bedding in never cured my squeal ..it just got worse

Mine do this after a few applications of the brakes. My concern was that if the brakes were rubbing then the discs/pads may overheat. This does not seem to be happening so I have lived with it.
Brake calipers usually have a seal around the piston that is designed to ease the piston back a tiny amount when the pressure is taken off. This action lifts the pad away from the disc and stops them rubbing. Some older designs do this at the master cylinder, but I do not know what the design is for our vans.
I'm still not happy and one day I may replace the calipers and hoses but for the moment I live with it.
Mal.

Kev, so copperslip to the face of the pad, the face that makes the connection?

Now I'm hoping you were joking about greasing the face that connects with the disc

What do you think of my Diamond RV. I have all the original documents showing the various conversion layouts, i was thinking they may be useful on the wiki?

it's a great looking van, never seen one that colour .. but I think the wheels are pants, old fashioned and more suited to a bay.

That would be invaluable information for the wiki

The colour we think is the same as the London underground bakerloo line and so to keep the theme I'll put a digitally printed underground map in the rear window...as for the wheels, I'd consider a swap for some nice alloys.

My front brake was squeaking, which also went away with a slight touch of the brake pedal. However it wasn't the brake pads, it was the wheel bearing about to fail. It sounded exactly like pads squeaking
