# the 'ol prop vibe/drone thing after livingwith it for years.......sorted!
# knocking that could be heard on the rear and felt through the brake pedal when breaking hard....sorted!
# slow speed (2nd gear) strange rythmic vibtation.....sorted!
what sorted all these issues??
4 NEW REAR CV'S..........
after fitting a 20mm lift kit strange little noises started appearing. checked the rear cv's as best i could whilst on the van according to wikis info but seemed fine no slack i could feel! but sometimes heard a knock on tight roundabouts so decided to take the gamble, also nevertouched them and i've had her for 9 years so.......
apart from the BITCH of trying to remove the old joints from another set of shafts, which i couldn't do and neither could the garage with a hydraulic press!.....the world inside my van is a wonderful place to be....like driving velvet(ish)

hi,
My rear left cv joint is making a bad knocking noise, the boots look ok, it seems dry, but difficult to tell.
If my joing has gone, would you suggest replacing both inner and outer? Should I do all 4?
I've got a holiday coming up soon and I'm not sure I want to chance the others going

As a temporary measure you can stop the joint from knocking by injecting oil in, any old oil fine. I kept knackered CV's going on a bay for 1000's of miles by injecting oil in with an old fashioned oil can. You remove the inner boot clip and push the spout in between the shaft and the boot. Needs doing every thousand or so, but takes 2 minutes and costs nothing. The joint knocks when it runs out of lubrication, and an oil bath is ideal for them (imho) This also worked on an old 2wd T3 I had 15 years ago when skint.
When you take the joints apart you can instantly see if they are knackered just by looking at how shiny and smooth the wearing surfaces of the joint are. I have rebuilt mildly roughed up CV's with fresh grease and they have been perfect.
It's a messy job, but you can repack with grease just by taking the shaft off and not dismantling as a longer term stop gap. Then you only have the cost of a tub of grease and new bolts if yours are chewed.

You can also drop a shaft out and turn it around so the CV's are the opposite way around, or you simply dismantle all the CV's and mix everything up and re assemble with loads of grease!

Thanks guys, I will look to do that for now. Although.... Europarts are offering Q drive cv joints 4 for £100. Or should I be saving for GKN's from brickwerks?!
I've spent a fortune on my van recently, my dad hates my van now. Tell me it gets better. I only seem to get 200miles before something else goes

Google for 'Q drive parts'. A fair number of the hits are of people complaining of defects with these parts, sold by Euro Car Parts.
No doubt 'Q drive' is yet another made-up brand that doesn't really exist, slapped on boxes of Chinese crap.
Probably the only supplier I know of left with any integrity, who takes some trouble to source OK parts, is Baxter..
I would definitely consider stripping your old joints, checking and re-greasing if seen to be OK. I wouldn't mix-and-match parts between joints though.

Advice taken, grease and save. Ultimately I want the best gear on my van, I suppose I just need to be patient.
