Hi,

Any tips for when the radiator bleeding screw won't come out?!

I'm looking to bleed my system.

what do you mean wont come out??
Only have to crack it half a turn to let air out.. unless someone has filled with gunge...

I think the thread is warped, tried turning it to let air/ water out. Nothing happened so I thought I would just keep turning to remove the screw. So I'm guessing it's not going anywhere unless I drill it out.

Can I bleed air from another point if I get the engine running quite high?

probably been over-tightened and stripped the thread.

If you have drained the system you will probably need to drop the rad. You will never fully clear the rad, but that said on a warm engine at say 2K revs on the level with a mostly full system I seem to get most of it out. let the fan come on a couple of times, leave the cap off the top up and you will see the bubles coming through. ue a brick on the pedal to keep the revs up while you watch the top up. As soon as revs drop the level will come up and overflow the top up so be ready with the dalek cap. feel the rad to see how high up it gets hot. if its nearish the top you should be OK for a while before you will have to drop the rad any way but it could buy you some time. not difficult but slightly awkward, heavy, messy etc.

I was only looking to let a bit of air out, looking at the reciepts, coolant was changed last year so I think I'm good for now. The radiator is how, it is only cold at the very top, so I don't see it being much of an issue.

But, I decided to back up the van on a very steep verge, thus making the expansion tank the highest point for air. I ran the engine to 2000rpm, see a few bubbles and then left it around 20 mins and done this twice. Hopefull that has clear any air, well most of it

I'm not sure I completely understand the bleed screw above the t-stat. If i open this and run the engine, should it be letting water out?

No it lets water/air into the bleed ring, which goes to the header tank... on a late system anyway

wait till the warm day in a traffic jam and it will allow pressure to release through the stripped threads! Sorry to be doom and gloom but you need to sort it !

Prob'ly the brass threaded insert has come loose of the plastic, no fixing that in situ if you can fix it at all.

Yes it will definitely leak when hot, but then again, it's self-bleeding that way!

Yeah, looks like I need a new one. Checking water level regulary, seems ok, not dropped anything. Van was stood still for 40 minutes while running today, no leakage so far, so I'm going put it on the list of things to do before my holidays, but certainly not top priority, my rear cv joint is
