Snapped head stud on 1.9 WBX

Following on from yesterdays thread about fitting a decoke set, I took the plunge, cleaned the head, piston crowns etc, etc, and fitted the Decoke set.
I managed to re-assemble all the components, push rod tubes in, lowered the head onto the barrels and tightened the bolts to 10Nm (1.02kgm).
On tightening to the second stage number (50Nm or 5.1Kgm) number one head stud sheared completely off at the base of the head thread.
I think it's my torque wrench which is a bit iffy, I could tell something wasn't quite right just before it went.
So, what do I do now?
The head bolts were in good condition and I'm gonna blame my tools.
Do I have to seperate the crankcase to change the studs or can I unscrew them and just replace as necessary?
Cheers.
