Hey I am advice, my sister has purchased a 1980 air-cooled automatic t25 (2 litre). She lives in corwall and I am
Planning to drive it down tomorrow from Portsmouth. Now myvan is a 1985 water cooled so inane two worries.
1: after driving it this morning for a few miles i had smoke in th cab from the vents, it has been sat a while so maybe just muck burning off??

2: there is a warning light which stays on which is marked EGR ? I have no idea what it means?
I am going to have a drive in it later and have tinker, any ideas about what I should maybe check would be greatly appreciated.

Much love

EGR stands for Exhaust Gas Recirculation.

Smoke in the cab it may well be exhaust gas if the recirculation system is not working right. DON'T DRIVE IT.

I think the smoke in the cab is coming from your heat exchangers. These have probably rusted away and you´re getting exhaust fumes coming in. There is a quick fix though, simply disconnect the heater pods which is a 10 second job each side, easily accessed from just infront of the rear wheels.

That should help, if not have another look as it could be more serious

If you can see anything like this you´ve found the source of the smell and possibly smoke in the cab
