VW LT 2.8 158 bhp Injection Pump for 1Z conversion

Hi everybody,

The purpose of this post is to know if this is the best injection pump for a mTDi conversion. I did the conversion with this injection pump and it has lots of torque... The van takes off from low rpm but of course there is a problem at high rpm (3000 rpm more or less) the engine has no power at all... It seems this injection pump has the limit around 3000 or 3200 rpm... and while driving on long ramps/uphilling power decrease to 2400 rpm and if I push pedal to the metal then black smoke with no difference.

Timing is correct, turbo limit is almost 0.8 and I have been checking the full load adjusting screw (and also checking black smoke while driving), also turned the LDA nut 90ยบ right.

Busman and Bernd Jaeger sell this pump but I think they are modified for mTDi conversions... Can anyone tell me what they do to modificate it?

TIA.

I answer myself but asking. The governor spring limits the revs?

Sorry meant to reply earlier.
Governor spring governs fuel. When at maximum revs less fuel is injected.
(You have pm.)

Thanks for the answer mate!

It seems the rest of the people here never did the conversion and used the LT pump...

Aynway, I waiting for .216 nozzles and then I will check how it works... if it's ok at high rpms, then ok, if not, governor mod. Simple as that.

Thanks again protexblue

Wow,

After a year with .216 nozzles I can say the van goes nice, but still with the same problem, IP doesn't developes power... 4th gear has now 0.74 and driving on the highway at 100km/h (3000 rpm) goes well... until appears a hill and speed decreases to 65/70 kms/h... and some black smoke from the exhaust. Turbo should be blowing at 14PSI (1BAR) but not always I listen to the whistling... Turbo is almost new, only 15k kms...

Any advice on this?

Are you getting enough air?
Black smoke is over fuelling or insufficient air supply.
Simple things first, has the filter element been replaced?
have a look see if any induction hoses are partially collapsing, this is likly to show at higher engine revs and load.
These hoses can be hidden from view and cause problems if crumpled during install

Well air filter is okay, almost new... But I could try to drive without filter... just to test in the hill where the speed always decreases and my nerves increases... :rollin

Some of these problems are solved... Turbocharger was blowing at 0.7BAR (10.1PSI) adjusting the wastegate now it's blowing with top 1.1BAR(15.9PSI). No more black smoke but it seems I have to adjust the IP (more fuel) to get more torque at low rpms. Intercooler has not been installed yet.

1.1BAR is okay? Have read some people saying you can adjust to get more pressure... But I think I don't need more... :?

There is a lot of messing about to get that pump to work.
We have one running about that is ... so so.
I think the 12mm head and rotor is a bit over the top.
Once we got over the governor issue the van absolutely flew, it was amazingly fast but the EGT gauge needle was also!
I wouldn't go much over 18psi/1.2 bar boost wise on a standard engine.

Thanks for answer!

Well, boost top now is 15.9PSI and I think is enough. But now I am experiencing some turbo lag... I think KKK K14 is not the best turbo for 1Z engine... Will be better if I install the intercooler? I have one from a LR Discovery 200Tdi, but it seems is too big to install it close to the engine... :(
